Denver's market is one of the Canaries in the Coal Mine.

Denver was about 1 to 2 years ahead of most of the rest of the country in terms of the boom, and it looks like they're leading the way into the bust, too.

Here's an article from 2000 that's mainly about AZ, but touches on how the Denver housing market was very hot in 1999: Part of the reason they're coming is because the Valley is still affordable compared with other big cities. The typical existing house in San Diego goes for $236,800. One in Denver costs $175,600, and in Las Vegas it goes for $138,700.

Denver's housing market had a slowdown around 2002-2003 as the rest of the country was moving into phase one of the boom, but then was early in moving to the widespread use of option ARM's and other Hail Mary mortgage schemes, giving the home market there a second wind after prices had gotten ahead of value there. They're now leading the way to home foreclosures, too.

We will probably see more of the neighborhood collapses described in the article you linked to spreading to the rest of the country during the next year as areas that were a little behind in the creative financing boom are also a little behind in getting into the "foreclosure's trashing of neighborhoods boom."

In a town without a name, in a heavy downpour
Thought he passed his own shadow, by the backstage door
Like a trip through the past, to that day in the rain'
And that one realtor made his whole life change

Now he needs to keep rockin' he just can't stop
Gotta keep on rockin' that boy has got to stay on top

And buy a CRUISE SHIP CONDO (got stars in his eyes)
He just bought a CRUISE SHIP CONDO (got rocks in his head)
Yeah CRUISE SHIP CONDOS (got stars in his eyes)
