What people buy when they buy a house is a measure of control (no one has complete control) over their own living situation. You aren't hostage to what some idiot thinks he can manage....you are the idiot! When something breaks you're the one you have to call and you're hostage to your own financial acumen or stupidity. Frankly, I trust my own decisions more than I trust some landlord's decisions even though I've been known to make some terrible financial decisions in the past.
