I don't have any rancor against them at all. I don't think they take more services than they contribute to our economy- but I do worry about disease, and their children are causing havoc in California schools (not intentionally, it's just that you can't pull children in and out of schools in the US and Mexico and expect them to get any kind of education, and THEN if you put those kids in regular classes in the US they are going to be a problems).

I don't think most Americans are willing to work at jobs below a certain level- we are, after all, a welfare state, and citizens get assistance at a certain standard- and I'm for that too- I like there to be a floor on poverty. So only illegals will really work at jobs below welfare wages. The solution is to bite the bullet and pay more and make damn sure American citizens fill jobs- and punish employers who hire illegals. I don't think it's right to create a climate that attracts illegals and then punish them- it's too much like creating an attractive nuisance.

That's just my opinion of course. If I were ruler of the world, etc etc.

my client says her mom can't get emergency room treatment here, because she's illegal. I thought that was the one government subsidized benefit they could get.

I think they will take her if it's an emergency, as in blood and guts. The reason is that they stabilize all emergencies and ask questions later because you or I could have an accident and be caught without ID or unconscious and unable to tell them we have insurance. They wouldn't want us to die because we couldn't prove we could pay for treatment at the time of the emergency.

If they won't treat the woman in an emergency room for a non-emergency, I don't see a problem with that. If they won't treat her in life-and-death emergency, that won't do.
