Unhappiness can go on for a long time. Are the Arab masses happy with their rulers? Were the Poles happy under Communism? Were there revolutions all the time? No, these things come on the their own time, and when they finally arrive it can happen fast and surprise everybody.

In the spring of 1789, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were in France and reported it quite peaceful.
