Nadine is very fond of strawman arguments. So if you say America lost a lot of goodwill after 9/11/01, he/she will say some folks hated it all along anyway. In a different thread, I said that America is creating more enemies by invading Iraq, he/she cast the only alternative to invading Iraq to be the one where America sends bouquets of flowers to OBL.

It's more that after 9/11, the United States suddenly had more friends around the world than we had had in a very long time

Really, I think that's like saying that a CEO whose wife has died suddenly has more friends around rival companies than he has had in a very long time. The burst of sympathy may be genuine, but he would be a fool to count on it lasting even through the next business deal.

So of course Bush is not to blame for all anti-Americanism in the world. But I don't think there are many people on the left who think he is.

Um, have you listened to this thread? Bush is to blame for North Korea! Bush is to blame for the attack on the USS Cole! Bush is to blame for Iran! etc etc.

If these people just stepped in dog crap, they would blame George Bush for it.

Thanks for posting that. Good article. It's nice to read something on this subject that isn't simplistic, and isn't devoid of any familiarity with the history of the twentieth century.

Glad you liked it. Are you familiar with Kagan? He's one of the dreaded neocons.
