That's easy to say, much harder to back up.

I don't think getting rid of guns is remotely feasible, at least not for many generations. Not without a totalitarian government in control, at least. It's like trying to get rid of cockroaches. There are just too many of them, they're easily hidden, and very resilient.

Barring any catastrophe-driven massive shift in public opinion, I doubt anything resembling major gun control will be in the offing. The public is largely in favor of gun ownership (and not just for sporting uses), and politicians know it. Gun owners are still chaffing from Clinton's nibbling at the edges of the 2nd Amendment, and are primed and ready to show their support for the 2nd.

There's a push in the UN to control small arms on a global scale, which I believe will be counter productive to their purpose here in the USA. (My world.)
