The number of homes being newly offered for sale here in Los Angeles has been almost non-existent for the past several weeks. Prices are dropping and no one wants to sell for less.

This happened in 1990 as well. Sales volume dropped dramatically until the foreclosures began. Then you started seeing a lot of homes for sale as people who were just hanging on realized the futility of doing so. Buy high, sell low - something most people are expert at accomplishing.
