better put that atv in the garage A move to allow more use of snowmobiles and ATV's in national parks and put less emphasis on conservation has been nixed. It's one of the first policy decisions made by Dirk Kempthorne since becoming Interior Secretary. A draft of the new policy stresses that when there's a conflict between preserving and using natural and historical places, conservation will remain the parks' predominant job. The draft also says the parks should aim for the highest clean air standard. Also, that they preserve their solitude and keep lands eligible for wilderness designations free from snowmobiles, A-T-Vs and other intrusion. katu.com
