Not really. I may be competent to judge a murder, or not. I may be telling the truth, or not. I may be the actual murderer, or not.

We all know of a guy a few years back who is almost universally acknowledged as having been wrongfully acquitted in plain view of millions of people all over the world. If someone can be wrongfully acquitted in full view of others he can damn surely be wrongfully convicted in full view of others, as well.

If I saw somebody murder a family member he might not get a fair trial, but we gotta be civilized here, Bill! ;-)

My biggest problem with the death penalty is my distrust of police. There were a couple of them convicted in Manitoba, Canada a couple of decades ago after they murdered someone who had caught on to their theft ring. Who knows how many people they lied about in court and for what alleged offenses before eventually getting caught for that murder? Who knows how many theft crimes they "solved"??
