Actually, thats not true. Before the war there was ample evidence Kurds wanted and supported democracy. Sure, their movement was in its early stages, but it was clearly moving forward.

The only thing different about Iraq is Muslims are involved. And many people simply believe those Koran loving fanatics aren't smart enough to flourish with democratic institutions. In other words, they are simply too dumb to value things like freedom, liberty and democracy. This same line of thinking leads many people to think Saudie Arabia and other Muslim countries are better off being dictatorial, then to pressure them to move toward democracy.

I call that bigotry at the deepest, most important level.
