To: Ilaine who wrote (21666 ) 6/23/2006 3:29:18 PM From: Rainy_Day_Woman Read Replies (1) | Respond to of 541327 wow, that is powerful - thanks for linking it to me brought tears to my eyes - you know I can still at times weep at the drop of a hat over it all - specially when I'm caught off guard - and I wasn't there, can you imagine how the people who lived through it are reacting? my father had a few months of nightmares after we got him set up and settled in his own place - everything had been so hectic and busy up till then, I think when all the dust settled and he was truly secure, his mind went back and tried to sort it out - they began to slowly wane and I think he's over that phase - this from a man who is centered and strong, who brought his life back together rather quickly compared to many others I too am shocked at the hate I've seen and read towards NO and her people - carranza2 said to me early on, wait, they'll despise NO because they view it as 'sin city', corrupt, fun loving, the big 'easy' and won't want to rebuild - I thought he was wrong, but he wasn't - he nailed it - people perceive NO as not worthy of a rebuild, populated with the bottom of the barrel people - the criminal element they viewed on the TV that week represents all of NO to them I can't deny corruption, there was and is corruption - hell, almost every city has it - I live a stones throw from Chicago, well known for their history of dishonesty every city also has lawlessness, poverty and rebellion - totally isolate any big city in America, take away authority, police protection, add catastrophe, desperation and need, lack of the basics, food, shelter and give it a week under those conditions - my guess is you would see what we saw in NO add to the above mix that many big cities in America are built in less than ideal geographical locations, exposed to the destruction of nature or man-made elements and you'll have exactly the NO situation the option isn't to not rebuild, but rebuild intelligently I've thought since week 1 we should take this opportunity to rebuild NO better, not like it was, but better, smarter, safer and yes smaller if need be I finally received my Jazzfest posters - here is the true NO - Phyllis from Art4Now, called after delivery to verify that we had gotten the posters, that they were in good shape and for all the delays and worry, she personally pulled low numbers for us - the people of NO are caring, loving, kind and beyond generous - this from a lovely lady who herself has suffered great loses from Katrina, but in the spirit of NO gives 'that little something extra' she also told me Fats is being monitored [health wise] and is living with his bro-in-law on the west bank
