What's interesting about the latest numbers is the effect on Santorum's campaign going forward.

Being down 15 or 20 points a year or six months before the election is one thing, but being down that much with 4 months to go is a whole different ball game.

The moneymen are starting to wonder if contributing to Santorum's campaign is about the same as flushing it down the toilet. Some will still contribute, but many won't.

Same for big name help. Will Rudy or McCain waste time with a guy who's down 18 points? Nope. Might as well spend that political capital on someone who has a chance of winning.

This is, to borrow a metaphor, the "tipping point".
