Lorne, you are failing to remark the difference between actions:

Insults may or may not be kind. They are certainly ethical when they respond to a poster in a manner which that poster has earned;

Exposure of misfits such as referenced in Baboons of Ban is a public service and is a way for the community to democratically identify and censure tyrannical members within their midst;

Slander is another matter. Now please try to get a handle on this. When you LIE about another poster expressly to cause him or her harm because of a personal animosity, and when you smear these lies opportunistically...you are fair game for any remonstrances including insults, lectures, and public exposure.

I have already said that YOUR slander was more thoughtless than malicious--which is why I have been gentle with you and spoken to you more for amusement than for correction. I have also told you that your apology is not sought if it creates some psychic turmoil for you or if it is insincere. Fair words don't butter any parsnips, in any case.

Insulting, lecturing, or exposing immature and malevolent slanderers is a public service and simply honors truth and defends reputation. Lying and misrepresenting the character of others is NOT a public service. It offends truth and it maligns reputation.

Once you have noted the polar differences between slander, ridicule, and lecture--then we can perhaps move the discussion up a notch. In the meantime, I still find it amusing to watch you skate!
