Yeah, right. Bob Novak is such a noble man. According to him, "serious Democrats" are those who spinelessly emulate the regressive Republicans and therefore always finish second.

Kerry's only mistake was believing a word Bush-Cheney said about Iraq WMD intel. And it is Bush who has been politicizing 9-11 and the "war on terror" since day one. Even though 9-11 happened on his watch after he ignored the warnings.

Now we know Cheney's group intentionally got the CIA to change the intel to support their argument, and leave out the only reliable intel which proved Saddam had no WMD. This was the intel given the senate. Bush-Cheney lied and deceived congress which is an impeachable offense. They also lied to the UN, the Amrican people and our troops. Triple impeachment time.

Kerry is a bona fide honest war hero and champion of veteran's rights. He had a perfect right to run as a veteran candidate, especially against a draft-dodging chickenhawk who went AWOL and lied about it, but describes himself as "the war president", even as he completely botches the war in Iraq and forgets about the real war on terror. Kerry's heroism in Nam and salute at the convention are no excuse for Bush's 100% dishonest smear campaign. Remember Bush also ran a simlar smear campaign against McCain. It is just Rove's way of cheating to win.

Glenn, you have to stop lying and supporting corruption. Really. Support an honest conservative like Hagel or Murtha if you like, but not these Bushie crooks and liars.

Democrats are very proud of our conservative Marine hero Jack Murtha, and also very proud that we can have an honest debate about what to do with Bush's mess in Iraq.

One thing we all agree on, it is a huge mess and is so costly to the nation that it must be ended ASAP. It is the GOP and Bush who has no plan. The plan they claim to have they have already violated and ignored, that is standing down with the Iraqis stand up. The Iraqis have already stood up, 250,000 strong and Bush is ADDING troops to Iraq, not bringing them home. SO once again, BUSH LIED. Failed and lied. Over and over. He also just secretly pushed through Dubai Ports deal so now Arab cronies of Bush own 22 of our biggest ports and determine the security there. With presidents like Bush who needs enemies?

Kerry made two huge mistakes in 2004. The first was that silly salute he gave when he accepted the nomination. The second was the fact that he made no attempt to explain his Vietnam-era anti-war activities. He would have helped himself immensely if he had apologized for the most egregious of his rhetoric from that period, and if he didn't feel that need to apologize, he should have made his case. Instead, he made himself a target for the SwiftVets. I have always believed that for the SwiftVets, their real issue with Kerry was never the minutiae that American Spirit loves to dissect with so much intensity and passion. It was the rhetoric. Reading Kerry's quotes from that period enraged me, and I didn't serve in Vietnam. I can only imagine how it enraged the SwiftVets.

I agree completely. I'll add a third mistake, one that Kerry & the Democrats are still making: seeming to really believe that a background with any military service or sacrifice should provide total innoculation on national security matters. If Murtha, a Marine vet, says the troops should be pulled out, how dare you question him? He's a vet! Never mind the preponderence of opinion among current or former Marines. The innoculation only applies to anti-war spokesmen, whose moral authority is declared to be "absolute," as Maureen Dowd declared about Moonbat Mama Sheehan.
