In his 1995 memoir, Robert McNamara said of himself and the other architects of the Vietnam conflict, "We were wrong, terribly wrong. We owe it to future generations to explain why." Deal with it, you chickenhawk liar. The Vietnam War was wrong. very wrong. Over two million people ended up dying, for a big fat pack of lies. And not only the combat heros but the peacemaking heros deserve our full respect. Kerry was both, and among the finest of both. The ones that don't deserve any respect are the policymakers at the top of the Johnson and Nixon administrations who pushed this war even after they knew it was a wrong-headed charge into a jungle quagmire. Even if not a single American had raised his voice against the war the outcome would have been the same. It was unwinnable because it was based on very unsound and dishonest asumptions. Similar to Iraq today. Which is what this debate ias really all about. Apparently Bush-Cheney-Rumsfield did not learn the lessons of Vietnam. Maybe because they were never in combat. Maybe because none of the top Bushies have ever had to endure combat. All armchair generals and war profiteers.
