Um . . . could it possibly be that your mental image of pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps sort of glosses over the advantages you were given? You're getting awfully personal and snippy today. What advantages was I given? I was responding to your suggestion that if a black teen can't hope to realize an elite position why should she even try. I think that there are reasonable goals that do not necessarily include hitting the top of the corporate ladder. It's a cop out to give up because of perceived sexism. Evidently you're worried about the glass ceiling. Good for you. This is why political movements really hurt individual choice. The proponents decide what the only worthy choices ARE and denigrate all others.
