Thomas -

Sadly, your view that the death of Zarqawi means we're on the verge of victory in Iraq appears to be just a bit off.

State of Emergency Declared in Baghdad

Jun 23, 12:41 PM (ET)

By SINAN SALAHEDDIN

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - The Iraqi government declared a state of emergency and imposed a curfew Friday after insurgents set up roadblocks in central Baghdad and fired on U.S. and Iraqi troops outside the heavily fortified Green Zone.
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki ordered everyone off the streets of the capital from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Iraqi and U.S. military forces clashed throughout the morning with attackers carrying rocket-propelled grenades, hand grenades and rifles in busy Haifa Street, which runs into the Green Zone, site of the U.S. and British embassies and the Iraqi government.

Four Iraqi soldiers and three policemen were wounded, police Lt. Maitham Abdul Razzaq said.

The area was sealed and Iraqi and U.S. forces conducted house-to-house searches.

The fighting was unusual in its scope and intensity. There have, however, routinely been clashes along Haifa Street, making it so dangerous that a sign at one Green Zone exit checkpoint warns drivers against using it.

Cheney's lasting throes : The number of US soldiers dead in the first 23 days of June 2006 is the same as that for all of June 2004 and more than for all of June 2003.

The US already won in Iraq (remember the chimp walk on the aircraft carrier?) What is going on now is not war, it is the occupation of Iraq.

Why just sign a petition? Why not sign up for the military at the same time and DEMAND that you be sent to Iraq?!

Can't do that? Of course. Didn't expect anything better from folks that regard a bunch of Chickenhawks as their heroes.

Only dishonest idiots use terms like "surrender" or "cut and run" to describe the thoughtful common sense of war heros Kerry and Murtha. When you're stuck in a quagmire, you don't stay there, you climb out. Only an ignorant fool would disagree.

Not a single major rightwing leader has ever served in combat so what do they know about war anyway? Look at the results of their gross misleadership.

Also, did Reagan "surrender" and "cut and run" from Lebanon? Does that make him "weak on defense"? A "traitor and coward"?

You guys are so F'ing dishonest and stupid it's not even funny.
