"have not undergone a successful test in nearly four years and have been beset by glitches that investigators blame, at least in part, on President Bush's order in 2002 to make the program operational even before it had been fully tested."

That dates back to when they were peddling the "rogue state" as our biggest thing to fear. I dunno, I still think it is idiocy to fear some nation lofting a single warhead at the US. Wary, maybe, but the probability is so small that I don't really see why we should mobilize the country behind such a concept.

JCP, It reads like a Pentagon press release. 7 of 8 successful tests? Then why DON'T they shoot the Korean missile down in flight, after launch?

Who knows? It's conceivable to me that administrators are vastly overestimating the capabilities of our missile defense program. Reports of this ballistic missile test surface, and now these administrators are salivating at the prospects of shooting it down and claiming a political victory. Meanwhile, they expect the guys actually implementing such a system to pull off miracles like Scotty from Star Trek.
