That was my problem also. I found that a couple of reboots of both solved the problem. So maybe it did detect them for me.

For my HP 3200, the fix needed for XP wasn't an update but a patch. HP will check your computer remotely to see if you need an update but apparently won't detect if you need the patch. It took me a while to figure this out but the info was there on the website, albeit cryptic.

It seems like XP will look for fixes if you install it while you're connected to all your peripherals but if you attach an older peripheral to a computer already running XP, the system isn't as smooth.
