If what is wanted is to reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide, either filtering it out of the atmosphere...

Wow! How would you do that? Has Dumbya your idiot genius idol, invented something to do it?! ;-)

.... or raising the biomass of plants that metabolize carbon dioxide seem more likely to work than reducing the use of fossil fuels, which will only help at the margins.

Deforestation, like the use of fossil fuels, is another facet of "development". Go to any country where the fossil fuel use is increasing, e.g. India, China etc. you will also see that deforestation is happening. In fact, there is probably no exceptional case anywhere in the world (other than little experimental projects) where fossil fuel increase has been accompanied by afforestation.

However, I would point out that the chief greenhouse gases are water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane, which are not pollutants at all but naturally occurring atmospheric elements. If what is wanted is to reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide, either filtering it out of the atmosphere or raising the biomass of plants that metabolize carbon dioxide seem more likely to work than reducing the use of fossil fuels, which will only help at the margins.

Like I said much study is warranted and really needed. If sea levels rise, the next Katrina will dwarf the current horror. I think we might want to make FEMA a real entity again instead of nested in the new Homeland Screwitupty Department.

Bush and the oil companies seem to be one minded on global warming studies, They must always support their view. Well they haven't proved that Global warming is not human caused yet either.

Again Bush missed a chance to do something good for the nation and the planet. His vote is owned by the oil companies, and as we can see the oil companies are laughing all the way to the bank.
