Germany and Japan attacked us. Iraq didn't. Bush's voluntary, unnecessary, unilateral, poorly planned, spin-zone war which he and Cheney BS'ed the American People and congress about since day one is is no way, shape or form even remotely similar to WWII.

Nor is FDR, the democratic father of the New Deal to take care of America's workingclass and a great commander in chief in any way comparable to the worst and most dishonest commander in chief we have ever had, GW Bush with his corrupt Sith Lord war profiteer partner Cheney.

Germany and Japan.<<

Nadine -

Good answer. Not quite exact parallels, however. Our armies defeated their armies, and then did occupy their countries, true. But Germany had been democratic for a while before WWII. Remember that Hitler was actually elected Chancellor.

Also, there was no "insurgency" in either case, which meant there was no ongoing violence once the war was over. The situations are quite different from the current one in Iraq.

What's also sad is that the current state of affairs in Iraq was fairly easy to foresee, and there were those who warned us about it. Moreover, there's a good chance that even if democracy does take root in Iraq, they will eventually elect a radical Islamist government that will be a greater threat to our security than Saddam ever was.
