I would have thought the best way to shut down the NYT was to keep hiring reporters who report on things from cities their reporters have never even visited. But that whole "Jason thing" didn't seem to work either, even after that ... and then thereafter, too. <g>

"the only way to shut off nytimes is to stop buying the paper or support them in advertisements."

The NYT coverage here is way out of proportion to it's influence. The major problem with it is that the three nets are in NYC, and they tend to put on the evening news what the NYT has on their front page that morning.

Don't expect any changes in the way they cover things. Or in their influence.

A good general rule for putting heat on an entity is to actually put the heat on whoever is one level higher. In this case, the advertisers in the NYT.

Rather than threaten to stop buying the paper -- they get tons of "hate mail" everyday, from both sides, so they don't pay much attention to it -- communicate with the advertisers, telling them that you won't be buying their product because they are cahooting with the enemy. If possible, show that you are part of a large group that feels the same way. Large advertisers are quite reactive to that sort of thing. That's probably the best way to hit the NYT where it would really hurt, and with email it's not that hard to do.

In May of this year, advertising revenues at the NYT were $185,000,000 -- vs circulation revenues of $67,000,000 -- so you can see where their bread is buttered.
