Re: "But in a free country, you can live in the province you want."

If you SAY SO... but by that definition ya gotta leave 'Iraq' off of that list!

'Cause FOR SURE:

1). Sunni Arabs are NOT being welcomed into 'Kurdistan' (as a matter of fact, the ones who live in marginal 'Kurdish' areas are getting burned out of their old homes by the Pesh Merga, and other Kurdish militias... and are screaming 'ethnic cleansing' to anyone who will listen....)

But they ain't many people who are listening, or who care, 'cause the Kurds are mostly on our 'good list' right now... while the Sunni Arabs and Bathists are the skunks at the garden party.

(And, anyway, many of those Sunnis only HAVE the homes they are living in in formerly Kurdish areas --- according to the Kurds --- because of the 'Arabization campaign' conducted by the Dictator Saddam in the 'eighties and 'nineties when he warred with the Kurds, and massacred them, and gave many of their homes and ancestral lands to fellow Sunni Arabs.

And, down in the SOUTH:

2). No Sunni Arab in his RIGHT MIND would want to 'move' there right now while Sunnis are being abducted from their homes in the middle of the night by people in police uniforms, and driving police cars, (presumed to be Interior Department security people or local police units who are *also* members of Shiite millitias like the Badr Brigades...) and driven away to be shot in the backs of their heads.

Ain't no 'freedom to live anywhere you want' if it gets you killed!

Re: "People of ALL WALKS OF LIFE can live in peace with tollerence of other views."

I agree... but that doesn't tell me WHO to support in the Iraqi Civil War... or WHY in Hell we should pick one of the combatant sides to militarily support ANYWAY.

I think we should stand aside and say: "We support Democracy and Freedom and Capitalism and will support with aid and material anyone who supports the same... but we are not in the business of occupying Iraqi land anymore, nor are we trying to impose a political resolution to matters that must be decided locally. Nor are we going to stand in the middle of a Civil War and allow both sides to take pot shots at us and blame all of their problems upon the 'foreigners'."

Re: "This war on terrrorism will take a few decades. There will be a few major setbacks...."

I have said many times: I am not 'anti-war', I'm anti-failure.

Right now I see mostly failing and foolish and short-sighted policies at play that fail to consider the realities of the world and human nature. I believe that 1/2 TRILLION DOLLARS is *more then enough* to have spent on this gambit... and I am not in favor of spending a dime more of borrowed money unless someone can convince me that a more realistic strategy, with better odds of succeeding, is in place.

Right now, it looks like letting the Civil War play out has better odds of producing strategic benefits for the US and the West then continuing to pour treasure and blood down this particular rat hole... in pursuit of a mirage.

When you find yourself in a hole... the first part of the solution is to STOP DIGGING.

When you find yourself driving over a cliff, the only good solution is to CHANGE COURSE.
