that they could care less about our freedom. I agree with that, in the conventional sense of being jealous of our constitutional freedoms, our freedom from autocratic government. But I think there's another way to look at it. If the central notion of your religion is submission, then those who aren't into submission, who glorify their lack of submission, are evil and evil is to be hated. Just a thought.

To me, civil liberties and freedom are one and the same. Among the civil liberties that are totally impossible under a Salifi reading of the Koran -- democracy, secular courts, secular law, trials by a jury of your peers, freedom of religion and religious tolerance, freedom of expression, equal rights for women, free trade, freedom from searches and seizures without a warrant issued with probable cause, due process, freedom from arbitrary and capricious government actions including takings, and freedom from cruel and unusual punishment. Not to mention women walking around not wearing sacks, homosexuality, whisky, wine, beer, rock'n'roll, dancing, portraits, unrelated men and women being in the same place without a male escort for the woman, men wearing tennis shorts to play tennis, and just plain screwing around. If you have a favorite freedom that's not on the list, ask me and I'll give you my opinion whether it's consistent with Salafi Islam, but the answer is probably "no".
