What triggered my comment about how little it took to cause WWI, was this of yours... After all the prelude that happened before that war, in the end, it took only a killed Archduke to actually start the war.

I actually do disagree with your thought that "Al Qaeda lacks the capacity to effect it" as well. The Saudi's could, and probably do fund some of the terrorism by Al Qaeda....OBL himself could and probably does fund AQ....to say nothing of several other countries who have oil proceeds and no one to account to for their expenditures...... Plenty of "wherewithal" to be had, if people know where to look, from the sounds of things.

I have continued to insist that a treat is only as serious as the threatener's ability to pull off the threat, that al Qaeda has "no shortage of ambition" but lacks the capacity to effect it.
