Which suggests to me that governing moderately, independently, without always kowtowing to the parties, is the way to put together a strong coalition -- the votes are there for the persons strong enough to be heard over the negative voices of the haters.

"Haters" includes people on the far right and people on the far left who love the attention they get when they trash the other side. Food fights may be fun but they're also juvenile. Resist the temptation to join in! The Republic deserves, nay, needs, better.
