Hey Bruce,

I set my TIVO for it and watched it yesterday.

Mesi was tremendously out of shape physically, and more so than I would believe a fighter who simply wasn't allowed to fight in sanctioned fights - one who ostensibly has a champion athlete's competitiveness/mentality, and was viewed as the next big thing in his weight class - should be. His medical suspension didn't prohibit running, gym work, or laying off the Hostess pastries, but it certainly appeared that in the last year and a half he's studiously avoided the former two whilst indulging in the latter to excess.

He ate far too many shots, whiffed half of his power shots, and most strangely (to me) seemed to spend half of the fight moving counter-clockwise against a right-handed opponent. That may have been a strategic consideration, but it certainly contributed to his having blocked so many punches with his face. It's my opinion that at this point, his better days are behind him and he can be written off as a factor in the heavyweight division.
