Oregon is great, i have childhood memories of a few places, one a town called Mapleton that is just inland of the coast road [which is not to be missed on any road trip within reach], another on a separate route in from the coast where we stayed with people from Mapleton, can't recall the name but it was a little narrow valley with orchards on both sides of the road, homesteader country, nice people, there was an old guy who had the patience to help kids pick their own cherries ... this was many years ago, but it's likely not a strip mall yet, hope not, probably gone all yuppie and gentrified though ... you can have the mountain on a hot day, gimme a cherry orchard -g- [edit] - ' Date: 2003.08.15 Vantage Point: From south east of Mt Rainy Caption: Mt Tetrahedron from the south east. Story: Liam Grimes introduced us to "Bruce from Gibsons" who has worked on the Tetrahedron Trail for many years (see Tetrahedron Peak trail). With Bruce's guidance , we were able to follow their trail up to the West col, and then a short scramble to the peak (see Peter Gumplinger's description under Tetrahedron Peak - Tet offensive). This shot was taken on the following day, when the sky cleared a bit and we traversed across to Rainy Peak and down the Rainy Trail - a nice loop hike. Good work by Bruce work and his crew on a great trail (as well as the trail down from Rainy Peak). To see the actual photo you must be a Paid Member 'bivouac.com
