In the Vietnam case, it wasn't the military who lost the war . . . . Obviously the Pentagon should be closed, the armed forces disbanded and the entire budget handed over to Fox

Given enough money and enough time and enough do-overs, surely the outcome would have been different.

But the real culprit isn't the media, it's the American public, who didn't want to keep giving the military more money and more time for more do-overs.

Maybe we should have turned Curtis LeMay loose and bombed them back to the Stone Age!

Or maybe stayed out of it in the first place, since it really wasn't our fight.

I remember very earnest people telling me at the time "it's all about oil, they've discovered oil offshore from Vietnam!" and "it's all about rice, Vietnam is the chief rice producing nation of the world!" Anything to make it make sense.

As women have been telling men from time immemorial, "don't feel bad, honey, it happens to everybody!"
