Petz,

The stock seems to be dropping... I think it is a good time to go to lunch now and maybe I will buy some AMD when I come back.

Certainly by looking at the current stock price (24.70 and falling), the market doesn't believe it.

But there were enough rumors coming from Computex and mobo makers to think something is afoot.

Dell has a problem. They can sell Conroes, Merom and Woodcrests, but they won't be able to get enough of them until December. Dell won't be able to GIVE away Netburst machines in Q3. Core 1 will be entry level at best. So Dell either resigns themselves to a bleak 2006H2, or it gets serious with AMD (for at least a little while).

Yes, I believe the rumor.

Petz,

A week ago, when the news of NY fab announcement was imminent I thought that either:
a) AMD had some great technology brewing or
b) Hector lost his marbles

Maybe another reason(s) would also justify it:
c) winning a chunk of Dell business
d) a big customer requested for risk management reasons.

I think the Fab 30 conversion was a great move for the biggest bang for the buck. NY fab (on top of Fab 36 and Fab 38) is a little iffy from purely economical perspective (the demand picture is unclear at this point).
