Feel free to give little weight to Lott if you want but there isn't any extensive scholarship showing the reverse of what Lott claims. Without such evidence, why have gun control?

Tim, I'm not about to dig up the research. If you are seriously interested here are several places to start looking.

Johns Hopkins has a center called The Center for Gun Policy & Research which will have resources.

jhsph.edu

Harvard has something located here which is apparently a website which looks as if it claims to catalog all Harvard research. This particular topic is on gun control:

researchmatters.harvard.edu

There's, of course, more.

I would guess, however, on a reasonably serious note, that research on this topic is extremely difficult. The extreme ideological divide; the difficulty of getting decent statistics on the major variables; etc. All suggests the cross national comparisons would be the best data sources.
