Shades,

I think you are saying that China will decide when it is no longer in their interest to buy our treasuries and I strongly agree. Their hoard of dollars may be a more effective weapon than any of ours.

I was in XIAN, China in 83 and a taxi (yes, they had a few) driver told us that he was very aware that we were much better off than he was or his children would be but he indicated that our grandchildren might be the servants of his. He spoke of the Communists as a passing fancy.

We were taking the tax out into the country to see a new tomb that had just been opened. We didn't see it but the ride was special. During the first couple of miles, the field were being worked with tractors, then the plows were being pulled by Oxen and finally by people and the houses looked like the shelters in the Po village just out side of town, which was representative of how they lived 6000 years ago. The taxi driver explained that many of the solders came from these areas where things were very primitive. I haven't been in China for years but I understand that life in these areas has changed very little.
