"the answer might be having BETTER people get elected." With dirty attack politics and extreme partisanship the rule rather than the exception, why would any honorable person run for office? Maybe in addition to the Constitutional Amendment a one time law requiring anyone who has ever held any elective office be permanently barred from any further government "service". "unless we get SOMEBODY to start straightening things out," Maintaining a perpetual uncivilized tone is not going to encourage honest honorable people to SERVE. Only those whose character is so despicable that they know they deserve the insults would want to be elected.
