There is a difference between an environmental pollutant and a weapon. It's hard for me to see why people can't see that. Maybe we should have made Iraq a Superfund site rather than a war zone...

Karen, would you saying the same thing if one of the sarin/mustard gas filled shells were part of an IED package that exploded in the middle of a crowd of innocents?

Don't think the environment would be much of an issue in the aftermath. Do you?

Perhaps a more apt comparison would be to the Umatilla Chemical Weapons Depot, which is about 60 miles southwest of Hanford.

The folks who run that depot take quite seriously their obligation to safeguard the weapons in their care. Specifically, they ensure the site is secure and the old weapons (environmental hazards in your parlance) do not fall into the wrong hands.

I agree with Murray and his comments.... Are you saying that a chemical or a biological WMD has to be placed in a "shell" to be a WMD? To be in a casing??

Do you think that smallpox or plague of various types, or items like anthrax have to be in "shells" to be classified as weapons?

Or that various chemicals, or things like sarin gas have to be in "shells" to be classified as weapons?

Tell me you're kidding.
