Peter, Within 100 miles of our factory, there were 25 other small furniture manufacturers in the same range of annual sales as us. For a few years, they were considered rivals and were shunned by us, and I am sure they felt the same way toward us. Once we came together and and talked to each other, it was obvious that we could help each other, which turned out to be true, and we then had friends instead of rivals. The other local small business owners would all be in things like the Rotary, Kiwanis, or other associations and did many good things for the community, along with having some fun doing so. It made the local newspaper when 20 small business owners were photographed putting a new coat of paint on the Carousel in the city park.
