But preemptive war has proved to be no piece of cake and this admin has clearly fucked up on iraq and cant really be trusted to make the correct fp decisions as long as cheney has influence and rummy runs defense.

Well, it all depends upon what standard one uses. Overthrowing Saddam was relatively easy and according to plan.

But stabilizing Iraq, and creating the conditions for reconciliation and national cooperation has obviously proven much more difficult.

In the end, the solution will be Iraqi. After all, they are the ones who have to live with the results.

All we can do is continue to use what influence and resources we have to facilitate national unity over tribal and religious differences.

On that note, I still believe it's important to ensure that at least 1/2 the oil wealth of Iraq is fairly and evenly distributed to ALL legitimate Iraqi citizens. Such wealth in the hands of a few politicians is a recipe for corruption on a large scale.

I think my suggestion would go far to not only securing Sunni cooperation, but also undermining the political power of tribal chieftains (since payments SHOULD be directly distributed to each Iraqi independently).
