That is an example. You can tell from the brackets. It is not part of the definition.

Parsing involves the analysis of language for its meaning. Parsing the Webster definition (just as suitable for parsing as a court opinion) tells us that the word means "to examine in a minute way: analyze critically" and "<parses appellate court opinions>" is an example of that. Sheesh.
