Iraq was secular under Saddam. Ask any minority religion in Iraq - Christians, Zoroastranians, even Hindus who used to work there as contractors.

Thanks to Dumbya, that is all gone now. Many minorities have fled Iraq now.

It is very hard to outdo a tyrant like Saddam. But your "fearless" leader Dumbya has managed to do it. Congratulations!

Saddam mainly built palaces for himself and statues of himself. He is similar to a Mussolini type, a rightwing dictator. He ruled over an ethnically split country (which WWII allies artificially created) which meant that to keep order he had to crack down against sectarian violence. Of course he was a tyrant and meglomaniac, but he was not involved with terrorism, nor Islamic fundamenalists. In fact, they were his enemies and he feared them.

So who were Saddam's friends? Well his favorite leader was Ronald Reagan.

If you listen to Bushies though, Al Qaida and Saddam were the same thing. A total big fat baseless lie which many in this country who listen to Hannity-Limbaugh propaganda every day still believe. The rightwing's abilityb to stay in power depends on keeping tens of millions of American voters ignorant and misled.

>>So why did he build 50 grandiose mosques and have a Koran written in his own blood? to show off his secularism?<<

Nadine -

Why did he hold elections? Because of his commitment to democracy?

II said he is a secular "Musim". I now see why you are one of those blind followers of Bush who form his base.

A Muslim builds mosques and has respect for the Koran just like Saddam. A secular Muslim does not require their women folks to stay at home and not go to work in offices which the fundamentalist Taliban did to their women. The secular Saddam did not force the menfolk to grow beards and wear long flowing robes to cover their entire body like the Taliban and Al-Qaeda require of their members etc. etc. etc.

More Dumbya achievements in Iraq :

June 27, 2006 · One of the first areas of the Iraqi army to "stand up" was the First Battalion of the First Brigade, now stationed in Ramadi. A recent visit shows they're still dependent on the U.S. military for food, medical supplies, water and gasoline. And soldiers report that to join the battalion, new recruits must pay a bribe of up to $600.

Rumsfeld blames Iraq problems on 'pockets of dead-enders'
6/18/2003 5:48 PM

WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on Wednesday played down recent deadly attacks on Americans in Iraq, equating those losses with everyday violence in large U.S. cities.

Attacks and accidents have killed about 50 American troops — including about a dozen from hostile fire — since major combat was officially declared over on May 1. Between March 20, when the war started, and May 1, 138 Americans died from accidents or hostile fire.

Asked at Pentagon press conference about the Iraqi resistance, Rumsfeld described it as "small elements" of 10 to 20 people, not large military formations or networks of attackers. He said there "is a little debate" in the administration over whether there is any central control to the resistance, which officials say is coming from Saddam's former Baath Party, Fedayeen paramilitary, and other loyalists.

------

That was then. June 2003. 30 US soldiers were killed in Iraq in June 2003. How about now? Rumsfeld's "deadenders" -- you know, those small pockets of 10 to 20 people, with no central control, blah blah blah -- have killed 52 US soldiers, with 3 more days to go.

This is the same Rumsfeld that your "fearless" leader Dumbya (who sneaks in and out of a "sovereign" Iraq without even getting the consent of the elected leader of Iraq) has retained over the last 3+ years.

Dumbya consumes one more :

THE head of the Army’s Special Investigations Branch in Iraq, involved in a huge workload, was found hanging by a bootlace in his barracks room, an inquest was told.

Captain Kenneth Masters, 40, who commanded 61 Section of the Royal Military Police’s Special Investigation Branch, had become “stressed and frustrated”, the inquest at Swindon was told yesterday.

He had been involved in investigations into allegations of abusive treatment of Iraqi detainees by British soldiers.

The body of Captain Masters, who had sought medical help, was found at the base at Basra airport in October.

So what do you flag-waving regressives say? That the guy was crazy and deserved to die anyway???? Maybe you morons will insist on not supplying the troops with bootlaces?!

Since they don't have the armor to protect their bodies anyway, what difference would a pair of bootlaces make, eh? Eh, Carroll?!
