One analyst (Kim from i-supply) just recently rated DRAM market as poor and here you have Samsung targeting the highest margin in history.
Too bad that Intel discontinued mid quarter update

Interesting to hear that DRAM profit margins are the highest in company history....that has to at least partially slow the conversion of DRAM to NAND. Of course, it probably also speeds up overall capex in the sector (and thus the long-term margin drop).

Samsung also said pricing has been strong for memory chips, especially for the dynamic random access memory (DRAM), which has been one of the company’s core businesses since the 1990s. ``The profit margin from DRAM sales is the highest in the company’s history. It goes over 30 percent,’’ he said.

Chu also said the company will start shipping high-storage flash memory chips to several foreign MP3 makers in the second half of the year, causing a pleasant chip shortage in the market.

``The megabyte memories are replaced by gigabyte memories … MP3 players of 6-gigabyte and 8-gigabyte storage will be launched in the third quarter by foreign makers.’’
