The Arab response was to attempt to "sweep them into the sea". Didn't happen and won't happen.but it's a convenient crutch on which to base brutal oppression and retaliation. There are a lot of Palestinians who are Israeli citizens, free to vote and work and worship as they choose. I'll bet that most of them would feel more "oppressed" if they were citizens of any of Israels "benevolent" neighbors. As far as retaliation is concerned, Israel has been left, time and again, with no alternative. They didn't start the 1967 war and would have been fully justified in keeping the all the territories they gained at that time. They returned much land, and didn't gain peace in the process.why is it OK to criticise the US but not Israel? Who said this? Not me..Collective guilt for the Holocaust? The only ones who should feel this are certain Germans and NAZI sympathizers. BTW, don't be surprised if Israel does a number on that nut case who's running Iran these days. Denying the Holocaust is one thing, but threatening to nuke Israel off the map is another. Proactive retaliation...So if this is to go on forever what hope is there for rapprochment - ever? If the Pals ever grow up and accept reality, there is certainly hope for rapprochement and resolution and forming their own State. In the meantime, I think Israel is doing the right thing in removing the Jewish fundie settlers from Pal territory and building a secure wall around the country. They should have done it long ago. And as for the bombings and rocket attacks, when Israel stops receiving them, then their need to retaliate ceases as well. Until that day, an "eye for an eye" (and then some) seems to be their only reasonable option..
