The NRA is to the right of the GOP, and part of their success has come by disenfranchasing and villainizing blacks (and now Latinos) by tapping into old racist feelings that we thought were being overcome after the success of The New South during the Carter and Clinton eras. One of the main problems with the rightwing is that they need to fan the fires of old racist fears in order to divide and conquer. Rove is a specialist at that. Plus, everyone knows that an almost all-white organization like the NRA wants to arm itself for a reason, a reason they will never confess but is true just the same. Also, the NRA is another big fat lobbyist with too much power over our politicians in DC. They are an industry just like gambling, tobacco, big oil and drug companies. They sell guns, and they want to sell as many of them as possible to make as much money as they can. Just not to black people.
