Bush has declared that disclosing any information about the known surveillance programs would "compromise national security,"

Message 22577982

Bush seems to feel he can secretly monitor every aspect of communications at random and without warrants, without discussion, oversight or limits and with impunity is utterly unacceptable.

When snoozing through the news one has a tendency to miss important facts such as the fact that this was reported in its entirety to the Select Committee on Intelligence and the joint intelligence committee. Given the facts, no other response is required to the false accusation.

I take back my statement that no one has benefited from Bush's actions. First, Iran is a major benefactor ...

Logically it follows if the US (which drives many economies around the globe) is in economic expansion rather than an extended recession even our enemies benefit.

The infrastructure is destroyed. Power generation, oil production, roads, schools, the health care system are all essentially not functioning.

They are functioning better than they were under Saddam. Baathist Iraq did not have to contend with islamofascists trying to sacrifice themselves destroy Western civilization. They were either in joint training facilities or locked up. Saddam released all of the prisoners prior to the liberation of Iraq.

The greatest collection of antiquities stolen or destroyed.

I must admit it is tempting to read the headlines and ignore the retraction the next day on page thirty three. But if you had paid close attention, you would have noticed that very few antiquities were stolen or destroyed. I paid closer attention due to my interest in the cradle of civilization between the Tigress and Euphrates rivers.

So tell me, how am I better off?

Perhaps you would have benefited from a multiple year recession that would have occurred if not for President Bush's going to bat for us and pushing through stimulative tax cuts. Perhaps you would have benefited from a couple more even more spectacular islamofascist terrorist attacks against the US; Clinton's ignoring them resulted in bigger and bigger attacks against US targets every couple of years: 2001 => 2003? => 2005?. Maybe your city would have been one of those targets. I am glad that we have prevented attacks rather than ignoring them and hoping they didn't attack us again too soon like the Clinton did repeatedly.
