The insurgency was sparked off by the actions of the US and hence can only be stopped if the US changes its course of action, which is to vacate Iraq.

The insurgents are not members of the Al Qaeda or else they would not have turned the Al Qaeda in as is the case with Zarqawi and the Tunisian arrested for the mosque bombing yesterday. The insurgents are not controlled by a specific leader such as Saddam. The insurgency is a movement of Iraqi nationalists who take pride is calling themselves Iraqis similar to the pride Bush takes in calling himself an American.
