Oddly enuf, getting spanked didn't ruin my life, my ego, my self-esteem, or my psyche :>)

Strange how that happens!!

Seems like you two are dealing with the easy stuff. Where's the line between a spanking and child abuse? There are kids that show up in different emegency rooms with cracked ribs, broken arms, bruises all over the back....who are "clumsy". They grow up and their kids show up in emergency rooms with cracked ribs, etc.. Being clumsy must be genetic. But they also say a spanking never hurt me and won't hurt my children. Maybe that's an easy one at the other end of the spectrum. Or maybe the kid is an adventurer pushing the limit and is clumsy.

Dad might come home from work every day greeting his beloved child with: You worthless piece of shit. ...Swat.

Where exactly does firm discipline end and child abuse begin?

That's the hard one.
