"Can you think of any cases where classified information was published that caused direct and immediate harm instead of just embarrassment and political scrutiny or pressure on certain figures?" Yes, I can. But the release and results of the release are also classified. There have been a lot of leaks that have resulted in loss of advantage and even loss of life, but to acknowledge what the classified information was would lead to people following a thread that would make the situation even worse. So nothing is said, except behind closed doors.
