News just announced a couple days ago that oil production had finally gotten back to the level of production it was at before the invasion. Why has it taken so long? When islamofascists attacked oil production and transportation facilities they were not destroying modern equipment with easy stocking of replacement parts. In some cases the equipment destroyed had been manufactured in Iraq to replace ancient equipment. Many parts had been stripped from Kuwait. The US has helped finance a thorough modernization of the oil industry and utilities. Prior to the liberation of Iraq Bagdad had electricity for most of the day and part of the night. Other parts of the country had electricity only a few hours a day. As we learned from Katrina, you cannot move petroleum products through pipelines without electricity. Theft of oil is a major problem in Iraq. Black marketers are bribing officials and police as a business model.
