"we have been a free nation and society for 230 years without a flag burning amendment ..." We have not needed it until recently. How often did anti Americans get major news coverage in the seventeenth and eighteenth century? Nineteenth? First half of the twentieth? I am not convinced we need it, and might vote either way if it was on a Constitutional Referendum. "A flag burning ban is just an appeal to the most jingoistic elements of society" Do you feel slighted when people do not give you the benefit of the doubt? There are some who believe with all of their souls that we need to protect our national symbols. There are probably some who are using it to stir the conservative base.
