John..I think the republicans got off track. I think their original idea was to cut taxes and that would somehow starve the government into lower expenditures. It's like saying that if you eat a LOT of ice cream, this will eventually lead you to start exercising vigorously and losing weight and actually becoming MORE healthy. The trouble is...everybody LIKES the ice cream part and you'll be more popular for suggesting it, but after you've given them the ice cream and they like you...you really don't want to bring up the excercise part and upset anybody. THAT could lose you your ice cream votes.
