Former Vice President Al Gore is now raising money on the Internet with the charge that the Bush Administration has an "unprecedented ... contempt for the truth" and accusations of Bush's being "a President who breaks the law" and "poses a threat to the very foundation of our democracy." While denying interest in a 2008 White House run, Gore continues to set himself up for one.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean continues to defend his efforts against Democratic criticism that he is hurting Democrats' 2006 efforts by spreading party money far and wide without regard for strategic political geography. His latest fundraising e-mail boasts of how his DNC is spending money in Utah, which has no competitive federal races this year. Dean's cousin, Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon (D), faces a very difficult re-election, but not until 2008. The DNC has netted just $4.3 million since Dean took it over in 2005. Contrast this with more than $30 million netted by the RNC in the same period.

Sincerely,

Robert D. Novak
