Talent faces State Auditor Claire McCaskill (D), who has built a strong statewide following after losing a close race for governor two years ago.

I agree but for a slightly different reason. McCaskill, as I recall from some earlier articles, is a very strong candidate, stronger than Carnahan, whom Talent just barely defeated in the 02 special election.
